On the heavier side, what I am most proud of is finishing the bulk of the research and primary design for a tarot card spread. The design combines interpretations of Cardinal Directions with Sabbats and Esbats. Interpretations can also color a read by the use elements of the Navajo Medicine Wheel (soon to be changed to Cherokee) and the Celtic Cross for a read that encompasses a lunar New Year. What research is left is mindful of the Catholic calendar, saints, martyrs, and all. Though, in general, that is foreign territory, I might accomplish more than a gleaning of dates, feasts, and fasts.
My first practice for the layout was my mother. I spent the week codifying notes and applications to interpret her cards with better relevance. For now, I am typing and editing the read I gave her on the second day of the Chinese New Year. After more tweaking, I'll ask for a few volunteers to read so I can get a better rhythm of how the interpretations of the positions as well as the cards fit together. After that I will be hanging out my shingle to earn pay. If you are interested email me at [email protected]. First come, first serve. I will only be completing four over the next two months from email contact. The method is time consuming and I want to make sure I attend to the reading with ample concentration. Pulling and laying the cards is one thing. The real magic is in the written interpretation. Please know that I am treating the read as a game, not a matter of fortune telling. Also, the amount of spiritual advice given can only be balanced by your personal interpretation of the written read. Accuracy is one thing; bridging into spaces that encourage emotional and spiritual development is a more desirable approach.
FYI: The personal deck of tarot cards are still in process of construction and definition. The project continues to be a personal and professional endeavor. I can say one thing though. I ain't scared of a book no more, I ain't scared of no acid rancid book. I found the perfect tome in Christian Hermeticism to help with my studies and it is thick and riddled with small print. My joy for it is so welled deep that I am sure one day I'll be on the other side of that river wantin' to cross back and start over. "The Journey" is written on every page and I've already left. I'm also sticking my nose in a primer on Anglo-Saxon Christianity. I started tonight. Diligence may not be the watch word until after Tuesday.
For you, as for myself, I wish a contemplative Lent.
As ever, stay hungry and curious.
